Biased Assimilation - 2014

Biased assimilation occurs when responses become polarised – in this case around the question of climate change. One definition of climate change deniers identifies two types:

The first is the intellectually and morally effete purveyors of unlimited growth who simply deny any problem exists … driven by ideological dogma or shameless self-interest.

The second is the whistling-in-the-dark advocates of sustainability who cling to the possibility of a managed transition decades after it ceased to be a viable option. (Corner & others 2012)

Ouch! The second group includes most of us to some degree.
